The Conmach 2015 Expo came to an end today. The event was a 4-day exhibition from March 11 – 14, 2015, which promised an excellent display of the finest construction, drilling and mining equipment from all over the world. There were several booths that proudly declared that they are the No 1 manufacturers in their various countries. With such man and horse power converged in a given place, the atmosphere promised to be explosive.
The exhibitors themselves were fantastic. There were a number of fascinating exhibits on display. Take the Italian firm selling plastic formwork, Geoplast, for example. I enjoyed meeting with the team and learning about how plastic formwork is the future in concrete construction. It is reusable, cheaper in the long run (maybe, I’d have to do a bit more math on that to confirm), comes in an assorted array of shapes and sizes for beams, columns and slabs, and most importantly, is environmentally friendly so the trees can get a much needed break.
There was one company that displayed titanic tires that was of some interest: Viramsun Nigeria Limited that specializes in supplying brand machinery tires from the smoother threaded Techking tires used by graders to the more coarse threaded BKT tractor tires. Also worthy of note is that this was one of the few exhibitors that currently has operations in Nigeria.
There were numerous companies that specialize in heavy machinery: mixing plants, crushers, bulldozers, the whole nine. Most of the companies are based abroad (China, a few from India, Netherlands, Turkey and one from Ghana) and are looking to expand their business into the Nigerian market.
Kudos to the organizers for assembling such an impressive show casing. This was the first Conmach Expo to be organized in Nigeria and I hope not the last. I fully expect that subsequent events would be much bigger and better.
To end on a lighter note, we did manage to have some fun over at Landmark Center interacting with people and generally fooling around.
