Higher Dreams Society & C4Music presents……. Friday Night Live was the place to be last Friday. Regardless of the ridiculously heavy traffic and lengthy filling station queues, people weren’t dithered from turning up to catch what was sure to be an amazing show at Ozone Lounge. The event was hosted by MrTawati, while DJ Wizziano excited the audience with an impressive selection of pop & hip-hop beats. After making my way to the bar and securing a good spot, I was ready to be entertained!
Friday Night Live Recap
First up, was a young and confident Tobiloba Adeyemi, popularly known as T.O.B.Y. She vivaciously performed two tracks “Mimi Do Do” and “Ijo Ti Mojo” setting the tone for the rest of the evening. I couldn’t help but nod to the upbeat Afro Pop sound from this young talent. T.O.B.Y’s lively performance was followed by the sensational Afro-pop teenage group Krypyic Mob (popularly known for their hit single “High School Girl”) who performed their new single “Wahala” to an applauding audience. Next was Enugu born singer/songwriter, Nnena Omali, (we remember from her 2007 SMVA nominated video “Oluchi” and Appearance in Mode Nine’s joint “Cry”) who swayed the audience with her Afro pop vibe as she sang “Palava“. Followed shortly after was the talented Papy J who showcased his joint track “Aruba” with BankyOnDBeats to an enthralled crowd. Sexy Singer Ruth Okorie (aka Ruthless Diva) lived up to her name as she performed her single “One Day”, effortlessly blending urban and African music. Deazy was entertaining as he put in an energetic performance of his single “Madam Sally“ Hayo Niel engaged audience with his calm and soulful voice as he sang “Sweet“. 3000 downloads in 2 days for an unofficial remix of Wiz Khaifa’s “Black n Yellow”, we knew what to expect when Rap Cheff hit the stage. And he didn’t disappoint. Rap Cheff commanded the stage as he performed his hit single “Fela Kuti“. Equally impressive was the lyrical ability of the sublime rapper Emnsmol. Winner of the Grand Entry and STFUnRap Competition in 2012, “Fingers In D Air” (FIDA)’s profound and melodic lyrics left the crowd in boisterous applause and stands the single as one of my personal favorites. Last but not least was the new & budding artist, Nath Mac, possibly the best performance of the evening. This guitar-playing nobody without a single released left the crowd silent yet transfixed as he sang “Smile” with his light, haunting voice reminiscent of Adam Levine. All in all, Friday Night Live was a great night out. The performances tonight showed how bright and vibrant the music scene is presently. It was an entertaining night. I have nothing but praise for this event and that has made me eagerly anticipate the next one. Until then see our facebook page for more photos of the event.
