There is an obvious allure to speed dating. It begins with the setting itself, it’s basically like walking into a bar and chatting up almost every girl there. And the good part is, they are receptive to your advances, albeit only for a few minutes. But honestly, how many people can say that they can walk into a bar and chat up almost every girl there without getting discouraged or a drink or two thrown in their faces?
There was a time when speed dating was something you only saw on TV. You know, the beautiful girls and the quaky suitors who just so happen to have the right traits to charm the lovely maiden. But that time is long gone, speed dating is picking up, for lack of a better term, speed in Nigeria now and other countries in Africa. The culprit here is the fact that more and more people are getting busier and busier everyday at work. What with the economy being what it is and awesome gadgets like the iPhones, tablets; fancy wheels coming out every second, one needs to work really hard to afford the good life. But in this struggle for supremacy we often tend to forget to incorporate a social and even love life. It’s through no fault of our own, we just don’t have the time. This is where speed dating comes in.
The main advantage is that you get to meet people, mostly of your standard and class, depending on which events you attend, and the entree is marvelous. More ladies and gentlemen than you would normally meet on a night out in the town are all ready and eager to find someone they are compatible with. There is no wastage of time and meaningless conversation because you only have a short period of interaction to decide if you like someone and find out if there’s any chemistry there. You tick a box for like and they do the same, at the end of it all, you get an email of your matches, those who ticked you and you ticked them, from then on, it’s up to you to make contact and take it further. Neat, huh? As far as the busy business executive is concerned, finding the time and where to socialize can be difficult if all you have are weekends to go by the malls and various bars in town. But speed dating, as the name would suggest, is fast and effective. At the very least, you get a fun night out filled with laughter and drinks as you fumble your way through 20+ introductions.
So if you are too busy to go around getting shot down by beautiful women, try speed dating and find your perfect match. Have you tried speed dating before or are thinking about trying?
